Early life and education
Lucado was born in San Angelo, Texas, and raised in Andrews, Texas, as the youngest of four children. He received his B.A. in Mass Communication and later his M.A. in Bible and Biblical Studies from Abilene Christian University. A required Bible course during college led him to pursue ministry rather than law.
Ministry
After graduating, Lucado served as an associate minister at Central Church of Christ in Miami, Florida. Later, he became a preaching minister at Oak Hills Church in San Antonio, Texas.
