Richard Duane Warren (born January 28, 1954) is an American evangelical Christian pastor and author. He is the founder and former senior pastor of Saddleback Church, one of the largest churches in the United States. Warren is best known for his book The Purpose Driven Life, which has sold millions of copies worldwide and has been translated into multiple languages.
Early life and education
Rick Warren was born in San Jose, California, and grew up in Ukiah, California, where his father was a Baptist minister. Inspired by his father’s example, Warren decided to pursue ministry at an early age. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from California Baptist University, a Master of Divinity from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, and later a Doctor of Ministry from Fuller Theological Seminary.

In 1980, Warren and his wife Kay founded Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, California.
